A concept is integral part of a collection. A concept defines the direction of a collection. It is the fusion of different ideas and inspirations. In other words, it is a development of a theme from original ideas. A visual representation can only be understood with a strong concept. It communicates ideas of the designer. My concept speaks about the authenticity or the non-conformity of the Lamani women that makes my collection. It is about strong women who want to be themselves and not pretend to be like everyone around. . The Lamani woman are bold with an attitude and are physically strong yet have an emotional side to them that is never see from the outside. . I will be making use of used denim or denim off-cuts. Denim is worn worldwide and is available easily, and a huge amount of denim garments goes into landfill, thus polluting the environment. Making use of old denim is a way of making people aware that old garments can be reused by deconstructing and reconstructing.
My collection will be based on the non-conformity of these Lamani woman. The collection is for woman who are bold and strong yet delicate from inside. The bold and strong features are shown in the garments texture and colour and the delicate feature is in its embellishment done by embroidery and hand painting.
The collection is named Circle of Life. Which means when something dies it gives new life to the other. Using old denim garments or denim off cuts a new garment is made. Garments that would end into landfill are given a new life. The concept can be visually represented by a mood board. A concept articulates the idea behind a collection, the mood board expresses its atmosphere and aesthetic. The former is a compass, the latter is a map.
